Issue is visible to: All Users

Git author names with XML-unsafe characters causes Subversion 1.6 checkout to fail after Git to Subversion translation.

The reason is that XML-unsafe name is written as an attribute to the journal file (.svn/log) which then can't be parsed as XML.
